Newell Congratulations Matt Kenseth on His Second NASCAR Win!

Newell Coach congratulates Matt Kenseth once again on his victory in Sunday’s NASCAR’s Auto Club 500 in Fontana, California.

After winning the Daytona 500 just last week, Matt Kenseth made it two-in-a-row by winning Sunday’s NASCAR Auto Club 500 in Fontana, California. This gives Kenseth a solid lead in the season standings for the Sprint Cup Series. He’s only the fourth driver in NASCAR history to start the season with these two back-to-back wins.

The Daytona race was called early for rain, with Kenseth having taken the lead half-a-lap before the race was called. So Sunday’s victory at the Fontana speedway was all the sweeter.

After qualifying twenty-fourth, Kenseth’s number 17 Ford made steady progress to the front. By lap 31 of 250, he was in twelfth place; by lap 90, he had advanced to fifth place. On lap 145, he took the lead and stayed near the front until lap 213. After some shuffling through the top five, Kenseth took the lead on lap 213 and held it for the remainder of the race. “Nothing is as big as winning the Daytona 500, but in a way, this feels better.” he said.
